Caleb was 85 years old when he came to his long-time friend Joshua with this request:  "Give me this mountain!"  It was the territory where the Anakim dwelt, but Caleb was not afraid.  He had believed the promises of God forty years earlier as one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to survey the Promised Land.  He had returned with a good report not because he failed to see the giants in the land but because by faith he saw passed them.  Now, forty years later, he still believed the promises of God: "Give me this mountain!"  Caleb not only believed the promises of God but he also trusted in the strength of the LORD.

The odds against him were no less overwhelming than they were when the children of Israel fought the battle of Jericho.  From a human perspective, trusting in human strength, the task of driving out the Anakim looked impossible.  But Caleb trusted in the strength of the LORD.  He drove out the three sons of Anak from Kirjath Arba.  Wherever you find yourself in your ministry, may the example of Caleb inspire you.  Believe the promises of God and trust in the strength of the LORD.
