As so many others do while the year draws to a close, I also reflect upon my life journey during the previous 12 months. Have I experienced growth in my relationship with Christ? Was I the husband and father that I should be? Did I take time to adequately nourish myself mentally and physically? Did I satisfactorily fulfill my work responsibilities?

I am discovering that I best answer each question when I examine how much time I invested in accomplishing what I wanted in each of those areas. My greatest accomplishments were and are proportionate to the energies expended in fulfilling each hope and dream. I take an appropriate pride in some of those areas; in others, there is so much that remains to be done.

What will 2014 be like for you? My simple goal for next year is to invest in worthwhile relationships more than work responsibilities, in people more than programs. My greatest relationship must always be with Christ, followed by family, followed much later by my job.
