In a recent blog, Thom Rainer shared some lessons learned by pastors entitled “Seven Do-Overs Pastors Wish They Had.”1 The first do-over caught my attention in an age when people fire off text messages and emails with barely a moment’s thought for the long-term consequences.
One pastor shared this reflection: “I wish I could have waited a few hours before I responded. I think everyone needs to put a heated email in the draft folder and wait 24 hours before choosing to respond or not to respond.”2/
That is wise counsel, confirming the words of James: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry” (Jam. 1:19, NIV). Perhaps if James lived in the 21st century, he would add, “and if you’re angry, be slow to text and slow to respond by email!”
We would like to hear from you. How well are you doing counting to ten?
