My pastor passed away on October 20 after a brief illness. Although he only served in his current assignment for 14 months, his ministry significantly impacted our church.

After a well-loved person dies, tributes pour in from many people; and such continues to be the case for this man of God whose pastoral ministry spanned 32 years in churches from California to Pennsylvania.

Events like this allow pause for reflection. One moment, he’s healthy; the next, he’s no longer with us. Additionally, I find myself asking questions. Not “What do others think about my ministry?” Rather, I ask “What does God think about my ministry?” “If today proves to be the final day of my life and ministry, can God declare that I have been faithful to His call?”

I pray God will answer those questions with a “Well done”—as He will do with my pastor.
