My son returned home in November for a well-deserved nine-day break from his university studies. While home, he utilized his time well—dividing the moments of each day with family and friends.

It is now December, and he is home again for an extended break of four weeks. And since the end of the year brings a season of more time away from work responsibilities, our family looks forward to relatively leisurely days spent with one another.

However, as was the case in November, such will also be the case in January; when he has to leave and resume his studies. We will then count the months, weeks, and days until we are once again together as a family.

I find myself thinking of a much longer “break,” during which there will never be another separation. We will eternally spend time together with family and friends—no longer dealing with the thought of separation. And the best part about it will be the fulfillment of God’s promise: “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, God Himself will be with them and be their God” (Rev. 21:3, NKJV).
