Basis of Protection From Disease
It is of interest to note some of the statutes which the Lord had given to afford protection from the diseases and curses which prevailed in Egypt. Leviticus 13 and 14 are devoted entirely to instruction regarding the course to be pursued should some contagious or infectious disease appear.
Ancient Medical Missionary Commission
Teaching and healing will be combined in the true church, as they were in the days of Christ and the apostles, when the church went forth conquering and to conquer, and when in a brief period the gospel was preached to all the world.
Mental Influence Upon Health
It is healthful for us to cultivate the spirit of thankfulness and good cheer.
The Power of Autosuggestion
It is generally recognized that worry interferes with the normal functioning of the various organs of the body. Every cell is influenced by the condition of the mind. Many of the diseases afflicting mankind may have their origin wholly in the mind. All diseases are influenced by mental conditions. Music, or anything else that produces even temporarily a merry heart, may do good like a medicine, since it leads to forgetfulness of cares, anxieties, and worries. Possibly this is one of the reasons why there is music in the dining rooms of the large hotels and restaurants, which are entered by businessmen who are desirous of throwing off their worries for a short period.
Promise of Protection From Disease
The promise to ancient Israel was, "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." Ex. 15:26. Although this promise was given to God's people anciently, it likewise applies to His people for all time.
Physical Habits and Spiritual Life
Why what we eat and what we drink has everything to do with good religion.
In the Time of Old Age
How often do those who have passed the strength of manhood cling to the hope of accomplishing some great work upon whiclr their hearts are set, but which they are unfitted to perform. God may speak to them, as did the prophet to David, declaring that the work which they so much desire is not committed to them.
