I just returned from a Topeka, Kansas, where I conducted a preaching workshop for a group of about 50 pastors.  I was reminded of some important lessons for those who want to preach powerful biblical sermons.

  • Most pastors want to preach well but we often fail to devote the time that is necessary for personal and sermon preparation.
  • We think we are clearer than we actually are.  We've been working with an idea all week and it seems clear to us.  Unfortunately, many listeners don't hear our single powerful idea.
  • We can all do better.  In a section on presentation and delivery, I was amazed to see pastors move to a new level of effectiveness by implementing a few simple strategies.

We'll be launching a new television program this spring called MINISTRY in MOTION.  One of our topics is preaching.  If you have some questions about improving your effectiveness in preaching, or lessons that you've learned and would like to share, write to us at [email protected].
